Pietrasanta is the renowned Tuscan resort town left by Loris and Giuseppe, when they came to Singapore to found the restaurant that proudly bears its name. Thanks to its marvellous terrain, which combines access to lovely beaches, mountains, culture, entertainment, great food, and a wonderful climate, it is now a renowned holiday resort, ideal for every season.
Founded in the 13th century as a medieval town, evidence of Pietrasanta’s Roman origins can be seen today. The town and its environs have hosted artists for at least six centuries, among them many sculptors who drew fine materials from marble quarries in the nearby Apuan Alps.
Pietrasanta grew in importance during the 15th century, mainly due to ready access to marble in Carrara and elsewhere in region. Michelangelo was the first major sculptor to recognize the beauty of this local stone, preferring it for the creation of many magnificent sculptures.
Many respected artists, including painter and sculptor Fernando Botero, composer Cesare Galeotti, and opera singer Irene Fornaciari, have worked or resided in Pietrasanta over the years, and the town remains a thriving and charming haven for artists and athletes today. Those who live and create their art here – and who participate in its lively everyday life – continue to give the town its heart and creative soul.
